The Push and Pull of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been prevalent for a second and continues to expand daily. With the non-stop technological advancements, many individuals find it hard to distinguish what is real versus what is AI. At times, this can push people away and generate trust issues in the things they see online. Other times, people are curious about the various layers of AI and how it pulls social media users in. One of my favorite uses of AI in the fashion industry deals with the marketing of products. Using AI to make massive inanimate objects move or walk sells a different and new image to customers.
With the Barbie movie recently coming out and gaining popularity, one Instagram user posted a video of a giant 3D Mattel Barbie doll ripping out of her plastic pink box next to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. This video and marketing grabbed viewer's attention because it looks so real yet is so impossible at the same time! Videos such as this one where AI creates giant versions of small inanimate objects have become viral across social media. Another example I saw recently was on TikTok. D'Amelio Footwear uploaded a video in NYC where giant shoes are walking out of a digital billboard on the street. Once again, the marketing technique used by showing these giant shoes walking on their own out of a billboard sparks interest due to its fictional nature. Below I have attached these videos of the giant 3D Barbie doll and shoes walking. Do you find this form of AI interesting or disturbing? I personally think it adds something new to marketing with a nostalgic feel of make-believe. Talk soon!
